What Causes High Blood Pressure
The causes of high blood pressure vary. When a person is diagnosed with high blood pressure, it does not mean it is nervous tension that is an unfounded belief. The truth is you can be a calm and relaxed person and still have high blood pressure. Causes may include narrowing of the arteries or the heart beating faster or more forcefully than it should. In most people, a single specific cause of high blood pressure is unknown. This is called primary or essential hypertension. In other people high blood pressure is the result of another medical problem or medicine. When the cause is known this is called secondary high blood pressure. Whether the cause for your high blood pressure is primary or secondary, your doctor will evaluate your blood pressure readings the same way. Although high blood pressure usually cannot be cured, normally it can be prevented and controlled. What you eat can affect your blood pressure.
