Manual Blood Pressure Monitors
Manual blood pressure monitors are similar to those that your doctor might use to take your blood pressure. They have a dial gauge and a cuff that is inflated by squeezing a ball located on the end of the device. A stethoscope is attached to the device for you to use to listen for heartbeats. One of the main benefits of a manual monitor is their cost.
To purchase a manual monitor you likely will not spend more than about $50.00. Another benefit to manual blood pressure monitors is that they do not require batteries to use them. There are however a couple of disadvantages. Anyone with pain such as from arthritis or carpel tunnel may have difficulty squeezing the ball with enough force to operate the monitor correctly. Also for someone who has difficulty hearing low sounds this monitor can be hard to use because it is necessary to be able to hear your heartbeat start and stop through the stethoscope. However in case you want to familiarize yourself with this technique, you can request an appropriate person like your doctor or may be a nurse to guide you through the process.
